How to Video Call a Resident via their Echo Device

For residents living in a Serenity Smart Community, family members can video chat with their loved one. Here are the instructions.

There are two key steps to getting connected.

STEP ONE -- Download and configure the Alexa app on your mobile device.

  • Go to your mobile phone app store (Google Play or Apple App Store) and download the Alexa app.
  • You will need to create an account if you don't have one. 
  • Follow the prompts to "enable communication." (NOTE: DO NOT import your contacts. Skipping will not affect your ability to call your loved one.)
  • Click "More" (or the three lines) at the bottom of the screen
    • Go to Settings > Your Profile & Family > Mobile Number and enter your mobile number here
    • Then go to Settings > Accessibility and scroll all the way to the bottom; ensure "Real-Time Text" is TOGGLED OFF.

You are now configured correctly for Serenity to be able to connect you to your loved one's device.

STEP TWO -- Please provide the following information to the front desk/concierge at the senior living community:

  • Family member's first and last name (as you would like it to appear in the resident's address book)
  • Family member's mobile phone number
  • Family member's email address

The senior living community will request the Serenity Support team to connect this family member to the correct resident.

Once this is complete, you will receive an email from Serenity that you are now connected, including instructions for video calling your loved one.
