This article provides step-by-step instructions to set up video calling with your loved one's secure Echo device in a senior living community using Serenity.
Here is an easy-to-follow guide for making a video (or voice) call to a secure Echo device from your smartphone.
NOTE: The initial process is a few steps and might take a few days to fully complete. Too many older adults are targeted for scams, and this process ensures that only people with specific permissions have the ability to contact your loved one.
Once this is complete, we know you'll enjoy being able to video chat with your loved one.
Requirements
- A approved family member or friend of a resident in a Serenity-connected senior living "smart community."
- A smart phone
- A personal Amazon account
Step 1: Install & Access Alexa App
- Install the Alexa App on your Smart Phone: If you haven’t already, download the Alexa app on your smartphone from the Apple App Store
or Google Play Store
- Sign In: Open the Alexa app and sign in with your Amazon account. If you don’t have an account, you’ll need to create one in order to call your loved one's secure Echo device.
Step 2: Enable Enhanced Features
- Enable Enhanced Features by following these steps:
- Tap "More" in the lower right corner
- Tap "Settings"
- Scroll down and tap "Communication"
- Tap "Enhanced Features"; ensure it is enabled
- Tap the left arrow in the upper left corner two times
- Tap "Your Profile & Family"
- Scroll down to ensure your mobile number has been added. If not, tap "Mobile Number" to add it.
Step 3: Alert Serenity
- Tell the Serenity Team: Reply to the email you received from Serenity to let us know that your Alexa app is set up and ready to be connected. This is a required step. We will then connect you to your loved one's Personal Private Address Book for their secure Echo device.
- We'll let you know when you can start making video calls!
